It had been a great start this 2012 and it seems everything is falling in place at the right time and the right place. Looking out my window through early morning till now at nearly 9am the highway just next to my bedroom seemed to be packed like sarines. Drive safely folks this Chinese New Year.
Talking about food, I had a great time with great company at Dorsett Regency Kuala Lumpur recently. I was there to taste their buffet dishes for this Chinese New Year and it was terrific. There were about 15 of us sharing a huge round table filled with luscious dining ware and golden Chinese New Year decos specially created for that night. We were welcome with a fabulous delicious Prosperity Splash Drink that came with a whole pineapple and it was a delicious drink to grace the night.
A huge crowd with a huge platter of Yee Sang is just looked and presented well on our table. I just love those salmon, thickly sliced and came with a huge portion, just so eye pleasing. The colour of the Yee Sang was just so eye catching.
The Preparation of The Yee Sang
Having to seat quietly watching the preparation of the Yee Sang can be such a thrill. Every steps are done calculatively. Drssing the salmon is a must, using lime or lemon jiuce then with a dash of five spice powder. The the drizzle of oil and sauce over the Yee Sang can be such a dazzling thing to watch. Once done the joy and the toss of the Yee Sanf ritual begins.
Our Yee Sang came with Salmon & Deep Fried Salmon Skin Topping
The Yee Sang that night was totally gorgeous as it had fabulous variety of texture and taste which can easily run through my tasting pallate. I like the sauce as it was just at the right sweetness. The present of crispy salmon skin enhanced the texture. Got to say that I was lucky as I got many piece of salmon on my plate and it was just terrific.
The joy of tossing the Yee sang was aloud that night, all of us were shouting for the coming prosperity and good health. We tossed it as high as we cant, some even fight for the top spot. That how we toss our Yee Sang, with great love and joy!
Pan-fried Lamb Rack with Chef Special Sauce
Then came running over was the hotel’s most famous Pan-fried Lamb Rack with Chef Special Sauce. I swear I can smelt it a far, tenderlising sweet aroma and I knew it will be a fabulous start. The lamb was done tenderlt and with the delicious sauce coating over it, gave such a joy to eating. It was fabulously good and everyone was fighting for a second piece. I got mine!
Braised Shark’s Fin with Assorted Seafood
Moving next was our Braised Shark’s Fin with Assorted Seafood which was done perfectly, simple and yet taste very good, smooth and sliky in taste. If you are a shark fin lover like myself, you will definitely love it.
Wow! I just felt great biting into the chicken dish as the the texture was firm and neat. It goes very well with the sauce that gave the chicken a good favouring. Wasning my tummy with this dish was just perfect!
Deep Fried Cod Fish with Superior Soya Sauce
A simple dish with fabulous cooking technique can truly brings out a dish just like my next dish, Deep Fried Cod Fish with Superior Soya Sauce. Having a solid piece of fresh cod anf give it a toast of light flour coating then deep fried is a must for this dish t creat a crisp outer skin. Deep fried till golden brown as most chef recommendation. Platter it nicely then sip in the supreme soy sauce to give the whole dish a bodily taste and refinement.
Deep Fried Prawns with Seafood Sauce
The prawns tasted fabulously good having it to coat with a delicious seafood sauce. The freshness of the prawns that night was kept to the finest. Love it!
Dried Oyster and Black Mushroom with Seasonal Vegetable
Every Lunar month of the Chinese New Year I never fail of not liking this dish, Dried Oyster and Black Mushroom with Seasonal Vegetable. I just love those braised semi-dried oyster that came with my favourite fish maw and black mushroom. At here it was done just the right taste and texture. Good!
Lotus Leaf Glutinous Rice with Wax Duck
Moving on to the rice dish we had a jolly good Lotus Leaf Glutinous Rice with Wax Duck. The whole dish was done generously and the texture of the glutinous was fabulous good while the wax duck was suprsingly not overpowering. It was done to the right taste.
Golden Sesame Ball with Red Bean Paste, Deep Fried Glutinous Rice Cake with Yam & Sweeten Red Bean Soup
In my mind Sous Chef Lai did a fabulous job, he even created and presented us a triple dessert at the end of our meal, Golden Sesame Ball with Red Bean Paste, Deep Fried Glutinous Rice Cake with Yam & Sweeten Red Bean Soup. I just love all three of them. I got to say the dessert here for the Chinese New Year is fabulous. I even tasted thei deep fried glutinous rice stuffed with glutinous rice cake which was totally insane good! thums up!
That night was a fabulous night that filled with awesome delicious food and I will be back here for more in days as of their great fabulous 38% discount for this Chinese New Year! . . . . I am totally satisfied, Sidney Kan
